I just received this lap after about 2 weeks wait, so was very lucky in that regards. Started using the lap this morning, and discovered that a few cheap & easy mods were needed. The water (hose) only comes within a couple inches of the polishing disc, so I added a couple inches of 1/4" rubber tubing to reach the disc center.

Leaning my arms over the metal edges of the unit was very uncomfortable, so i covered them with pieces of foam pipe insulation just slipped into place (not permanently attached, as they sometimes need to be removed).

Stones being polished can sometimes slip out of my hands, slamming against the inside of the metal box. So I covered the inside front of the box, the left side up to the center of the motor shaft, and the bottom front inside the box with a thin layer of closed-cell foam held in place with 2-sided carpet tape. I cut a narrow channel for water to flow out of the tube at the front of the box into a bucket for later disposal. I pushed the end of the hose into a piece oof pvc pipe to help keep it in place inside the bucket.

I sit down while using this unit, as it seems to be made for this position. I looked at a competing from another well-known company, but that one seemed to be made for standing up (no wide area for wrist support). My old bones need all the help they can get. The other unit is quite a bit more expensive.

The mods were quick and easy with stuff I had laying around, so no issues there. This is an excellent product that I would buy again if needed. Amateur or pro, you NEED this in your shop if you do any amount of polishing on flat stones. The polishing heads stick firmly to the magnetic base plate, so no worries there. This the best new lapidary product I have seen in quite a while, and the 8" size is a HUGE improvement of 6" units. After using this one for a bit, I would not consider some Chinese knockoff at even half the price.
