Benchtop Drill Press Delivers High Quality at a Great Price!
Review by
I recently purchased the Benchtop Drill Press for drilling Agate Cabochons and it has been fantastic. I also have a MicroLux drill press and with the fluid pump/ drip system, but the pump broke down so I decided to try out the Benchtop unit. I've been running the Benchtop press with the belt on the middle wheels (which is super easy to change), at the lowest speed setting on the dial. So I'm probably getting 1,500 - 2,000 RPM's. Instead of using a pump and spray/ drip system I'm just immersing my stones in a small plastic tray filled with water.
With the Benchtop Drill Press I have been able to get seven or more agate cabochons drilled using inexpensive solid core diamond bits, which is actually better than what I was getting with the MicroLux drill press.
The Benchtop Drill Press is a great machine for both beginners and experienced lapidarists!

Not a true variable speed drill motor
Review by
At first the drill press seem like it was built heavy enough. It seemed to have everything a jeweler would need for most drilling applications. That is until you turn it on. The lowest speed on this drill motor is plus 5000 rpms. It ranges on the variable speed from 5000 to 8500 rpms. It does not start at 0 rpms and go to 8500. This is way too fast for any size diamond drill bit. Unless you are drilling wood I would look else where.
