When it says "Does not support metal plates" does that mean discs that are incorporated to a metal backing plate? Or that it can't handle metal lap plates? Or that it can't handle metal backing plates? Please specify.

This means it won't support an aluminum or steel master/backing plate. The 1mm thick metal topping plates would be no problem if they were backed to a plastic backing plate.
