Can you go from an 80 grit hard diamond wheel forming and shaping a cabochon and then switch to an expando drum with 220 grit silicon carbide belt, and complete the sanding on a 600 grit s/c belt? Thanks

Yes, should work. it would always be better to go finer than 600 before going to polish.
