Description 6" Trim Saw Vise (Hi-Tech)
This useful accessory is made for our 6" Trim Saw Machine. It is used to secure your material for you while you cut instead of you having to hold your material. This is a great tool for those of you that don't want your hands near the turning saw blade while you cut. Our vise assembly is an adjustable guide that allows for accurate precision cuts. The carriage advances slowly to feed material evenly into the blade.

… after HiTech shipped me replacement parts (no charge) and I figured out a way around the awkward clamping arrangement.
Jennifer at HiTech mailed me a new guide rod and sled. This time the rod was the right size and the sled moves easily and smoothly along the saw bed.
And I came up with a way to use the vise. It still won’t clamp a rock, but I’ve now resorted to gluing my slabbing rocks to a wood block. With the nice square sides of the wood block, the vise clamp works fine. This requires that I make an initial cut for each rock to create a flat surface for gluing.
Cutting slabs is very slow going with a 6” water-cooled saw, but the results using the glue, wood block, and vise are outstanding.
If you’re not up for going to this much trouble to use the vise, then you probably won’t like it, like me, initially.

I have yet to find a rock that can be cut using this vise. Complete waste of money.
For starters, the sled will not slide along the aluminum guide rod. I had to resort to sanding the guide rod, then marking the only clock angle of the guide rod that “works.” The rod must be a little out-of-round so the sled will only slide with the guide rod at one particular hour angle.
The guide rod is soft aluminum, and the sled’s bushings are hardened steel with very sharp corners. So the sled bushings dig into the rod, making it nearly impossible to slide.
There must be a rock out there somewhere that can be held by this vise. I am still looking. The clamping system hasn’t worked for me - maybe I just need some training ;-)
Further making this vise useless are the 2 skinny blades supplied with the saw. The blade just creeps left or right when you push a vise-held rock along the “true” line. If you keep going, the blade will continue to wander left/right and bind in the kerf. Maybe a thicker blade would eliminate this problem? I dunno because I gave up on the vise before I bought a 1mm blade.
It is much easier to cut slabs by hand than to try to use the vise. So, be smarter than me and save your money.
PS - wanna buy a vise?
